A little history (not the course)
A lot of work, planning and consistent meetings was what gave birth to The Newt as it is today.
Actually, that was what pushed Thalia to go out into the Great Smoky Mountains, with Melina and Fiona holding two large flashlights by their side, while Olga and Christina led the way with a map.
All of this, just to find a newt. Not just any newt, but The Newt. Think of it as “Mission: Impossible” but on Deree's campus... sort of.
The Newt is the online forum for the Deree Journalism Club (JC). The JC was created in 2024 to work as a creative hub for students to embrace creativity, originality and freshness.
Who Runs this Show?
Thalia
President
Is an English Literature major and president of the Journalism Club.
She writes the Newt’s book column “Intertextual Hell,” about stuff you actually want to read.
She’s interested in film reviews, culture pieces, non-fiction, and exploring the world through personal style.

Vice President
Is a tired Communication major. She is the friend who pays attention to little details in movies and TV shows.
Yes, it's important if
the background colour is pure white or eggshell white.
She might ramble about it in upcoming movie reviews and opinion pieces.

Fiona
Secretary
Is a Biomedical Sciences major. She likes writing, loves events and is out-and-about often.
She adores anything about pop culture, books and sciences!
She often swears her notes app could reveal another persona of hers, maybe Modern Sylvia Plath..?
Christina
Club Treasurer
Is a Psychology Major, who loves writing, going out on walks and most of all; socializing and meeting new people. She loves having heartfelt and meaningful conversations with her friends, and is always there to provide a shoulder for others.
Melina
Social Media & Activities Chair
Is an English Literature major.
She’s interested in movies, TV shows and, really, all forms of media.
Now and then, she hyper-fixates enough to write reviews about them.
She is also guaranteed to find all the cute spots and events in town for you.
